Unfortunately, for many of us, the first winter snow signals a hibernation period for riding. In order to protect your investment, we recommend that you prepare your bike for winter storage. Many of our motorcycle partner shops store motorcycles. They have limited room and therefore, you should contact them as soon as possible to secure your spot. If you are not going to store your motorcycle at a shop it is important that you store it in a dry area that is not in direct sunlight. We recommend that you keep your motorcycle covered with a high-quality cover that is breathable. If you’re storing your motorcycle outside or where it could be effected by the elements make sure that the cover is waterproof.
Prior to storing your motorcycle, you should clean it to remove all of the grime, dirt and other corrosive elements that could impact your ride.
If possible, have your bike’s tires placed on a mat, wooden board or on stands to keep them from resting on a frigid garage floor all winter.
Don’t forget to install a trickle charge or remove your battery during the winter. A trickle charge will keep the battery fresh for when you unveil the bike in the Spring.
Of course, when the Spring arrives you will want to get out on your ride. Now is a great time to think ahead as to whether or not there is any off-season upgrades that can be done by a qualified motorcycle shop over the winter.
